In 1989 (simultaneous with the events of the first game) 50 Blessings targets the Russian Mafia by recruiting Jake and Richter to kill their members and associated. The Russian Mafia is also present in Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. The events of Hotline Miami severely weakened the Russian Mafia, after Jacket destroyed the majority of it's operations and killed it's patriach.Įvents of Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Jacket kills the current boss, as well as the previous boss. After finding the manager, he tracks the location of the Russian Mafia's leader.
Jacket drives to the Golden Truck Stop, a nightclub owned by the Russian Mafia, on June 23rd, 1989 and kills everyone inside. On May 13, 1989, Jacket assassinates several politicians involved in the Russo-American Coalition, and a number of Russian mobsters. On April 3rd, 1989, he kills a film producer associated with the Russian Mafia, and rescues a drugged and crying girl from his home. Jacket continues to receive messages over the following months, and continues to carry out murders of Russian mobsters. On the 3rd of April 1989, one of the first individuals contacted, Jacket, is instructed to retrieve a briefcase from Brickell Metro Station. The messages provide the recipients with addresses housing operations of the Russian Mafia. 50 Blessings incites numerous massacres of members and affiliates of the Russian Mafia via cryptic answering machine messages sent to selected subscribers of their newsletter. The Russian Mafia is the primary target of 50 Blessings in the events of Hotline Miami. By 1991, the Russian Mafia had become an ally of the Colombian Cartel and the largest organized crime syndicate in Miami. Not much information is available regarding the syndicate's history prior to the spring of 1989, but it's formation was likely caused by an influx of Russian immigrants in the United States as a result of the Russo-American Coalition. The syndicate depicted in the Hotline Miami series is highly structured and militarized, possessing significant power and influence in the criminal underworld of Miami, Florida. Below them are the Boeviks (Warriors) who act as low-ranking muscle, and Shestyorka (Associates) who do errands and odd jobs. Structures and traditions in the Russian Mafia can vary wildly from syndicate to syndicate, but are typically divided into a similar basic hierarchy - the Pakhan (Godfather) is the head of the syndicate, along with various lieutenants and high-ranking soldiers known as Avtoritets (Brigadeers). The Russian Mafia, often reffered to as the Bratva (Brotherhood) or Organizatsiya (Organization), is a loose term referring a number of organized crime syndicates originating in Russia.
